Truck Driver Training and Job Qualifications

Trucks are a major means of door-to-door delivery of goods from small boxes, bakery products to large motor vehicles. Other modes of transport used are the trains, ships and airplanes. However even these goods have some amount of transportation by trucks involved. The truck drivers would be working for long hours starting from morning or even any time in the night or even in shifts. They may be traveling short distances daily or even day-to-day longer interstate trips also.

Job Qualifications

The federal state regulations have set certain standard and qualifications for the truck drivers also. A driver ’s license issued by the state in which he resides is a must. A Commercial Driver ’s License issued by the resident state is needed when trucks like tractor-trailers or large sized straight trucks, which are designed to transport 26,000 or more pounds of cargo.

To obtain a CDL the individuals should establish their ability to drive the commercial sized vehicle and successful clear a written test on the rules and regulations. Licensed drivers must accompany all the trainee drivers until they get their own CDL. Those drivers who name is recorded in a national database for driving violations will be denied a CDL.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations requires the drivers to be 21 years of age and undergo a physical examination once every 2 years. Other physical requirements include good hearing ability, at least a 20/40 vision with glasses and 70-degree field of vision in each eye. They should not be colorblind. Moreover they should be able to read English necessary to read road signs. They should be able communicate with the law enforcement officers and other people in English. It is useful, as they need to make reports regularly. Additionally the drivers must not be convicted or felony, drug abuse, drunken driving or a hit and run case causing injury or death.

The firms hiring these drivers sometimes have higher standards set with age being minimum 22 years, being able to lift heavy objects and with an experience of three to five years. These firms set incentives to hire less risky drivers as they driving are fuel-efficient and with less liability costs to the company.

Truck Driver Training

Driver ’s training courses are good methods of preparation of individuals for such jobs. High school courses in driver training and automotive mechanics can be useful. Many vocational technical schools offer tractor-trailer driver training courses. They learn to maneuver on crowded streets and highway traffics. They are also instructed about inspecting trucks and freight for compliance with state and local and federal regulations. The prospective drivers should check the acceptability of the course with the local trucking companies before enrolling.

Some states require drivers to complete a basic course before being issued a CDL. Employers also provide informal training by instructions from experienced drivers. They may also ride with the experienced drivers before being assigned any duties. One or two days of classroom sessions involving instruction on general duties, loading of trucks, policies of the company and making reports and records. The drivers/sales workers are also trained on the types of products they will be handling to make the job effective. Those handling hazardous material or operate specialized trucks receive additional training on those areas.

If they have prior experience like driving in the Armed forces it can be an advantage. Some individuals also start of as helper, driving part of day and carrying out loading and unloading of freight.

Should I Buy A New Or A Used Toyota Car Or Truck?

You have decided that Toyota is the vehicle brand for you. But maybe you’re wondering what kind of Toyota - new or used? - you should buy. This article will contain some information that will allow you to weigh the pros and the cons of buying new or used.

Used Toyota cars: Bigger risk or bigger savings?

the current market has an abundance of used cars for sale. Because the supply is higher than the demand currently, prices are dropping. In many places, used Toyota selections are plentiful - eco-conscious buyers can even find hybrid vehicles like the Toyota Prius and Camry at reduced rates. For many buyers, used cars or trucks are synonymous with a great selection at the lowest price possible.

Used cars, however, can be a gamble. Some information about a used car or truck - such as where the previous owner drove it, how he or she treated the vehicle, and whether the vehicle was purchased used in the first place - might not be available to the next buyer. Worse, some car dealerships rehab cars that are not working well or that have serious malfunctions that might show up later. These types of used vehicles are called “lemons,” and no vehicle brand - Toyota, Subaru, or Dodge - is without its lemons.

Fortunately, reputable Toyota dealerships have been toughening up their requirements about which used vehicles they will or won’t accept. Some used cars include factory transferable warranties that can be carried from one owner to the next. More importantly, a good dealership will always perform thorough inspections and test drives on any used vehicles slated to be sold on its lot. Still other dealers offer “certified pre-owned programs,” which involve more stringent requirements for used cars that can be sold.

Finally, used cars and trucks can be a better value. Even when outfitted with special features, they always cost less than their factory-new counterparts. Remember: A new car loses value the minute it is driven off the dealership lot.

New Toyota cars: More money - fewer problems?

When you buy a Toyota car or truck new, you are almost guaranteed a few benefits. First, your new vehicle should be relatively maintenance free - especially for the first several years of ownership. The vehicle warranty will often cover routine maintenance like oil changes and tire rotations, as well as the cost of part repairs or replacements. Warranties can even cover related vehicle services, like roadside assistance. .

You might have more information at your disposal about new Toyota vehicle prices, too. The price of a used car or truck is heavily dependent upon its condition and mileage - two factors that are often completely independent of vehicle make and model. Conversely, pricing information about new vehicles is readily available - in newspapers, on Toyota dealer Web sites, or on Internet car pricing resources - and prices are fairly standard. If you are trying to negotiate a fair price on a new car, you are in a better position to ask for the lowest price available, because unlike used cars, mileage and wear and tear are not factors.

The biggest downside to buying a Toyota new is this: a new vehicle is a larger investment, and will depreciate the minute you begin driving it. Vehicle depreciation is exponential, as demonstrated by the mathematical model of exponential decay, V = Voert . This model demonstrates that over a 10-year period, a vehicle will lose much of its value; for example, a $20,000 new car is worth just over three thousand dollars in 10 years.

Ultimately, consumers should chose the Toyota model and vehicle condition suitable for their individual lifestyles, budgets, and needs. The best way to shop for a vehicle is to make a budget; draw up a list of what you are looking for in a car or truck, and then become as informed as possible about all of your options

Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe - British Aristocrat

The British company Rolls-Royce presented its own version of aristocratic car at the latest Geneva autoshow. This time - for those who prefer not using a hired driver’s services. Phantom model version with coupe body complemented the company’s line.

During those 10 years, BMW Group owns Rolls-Royce, this is already third novelty in the British company’s lineup. Firstly they had Phantom sedan, accepted by wide audience somehow ambiguously, but still providing stable growing sales for the company.

Then they presented cabriolet Drophead, built on the base on same Phantom, in Qatar, right in front of the local oil sheikhs that represent a significant part of Rolls-Royce’s targeted audience. Phantom Coupe finished the procession of loud preems quite logically.

Rolls-Royce representatives call the the novelty as unique model, however, it is not quite truth. For example, the car is built on insignificantly reworked Phantom sedan’s platform. The novelty completely derived design from generic 101EX coupe. At bottom, Phantom Coupe is nothing but a serial version of the mentioned concept.

The new British coupe’s construction is based on the volumetric aluminum frame that is produced manually and passes computer control. Limit of error while assembly work is 0.1 mm.

Under Phantom Coupe’s bonnet you can find BMW’s V12 motor with 6.75 l cubic capacity and 453 h.p. Torsion torque, reached by engine, is 750 Nm while 3 500 r/min, and it gives 75% top thrust while 1 000 r/min already.

A new coupe’s salon holds 4 adult passengers. However, back passengers are provided with easier and faster access to second row’s seats due to the fact that long massive car’s doors are opened against run. Thus, Rolls-Royce company managed to keep its own conservative traditions and solved the problem of configuration.

Phantom Coupe’s interior also have both traditions and modern technologies. Front panel’s design makes you remembering the phrase “facia panel” slightly forgotten now - it really resembles cars of the 30-40ies of the last century. Finishing work is made exceptionally with expensive and exclusive materials, and in “standard” the novelty is equipped with the luxury Lexicon LOGIC7 420 W audio system.

A new Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe’s batch manufacturing will be started this summer already, however, orders are accepted already now.

The Race Car Inspired BMW M3

German premier automotive maker BMW continues to maintain its hold as the top selling luxury auto brand in the world. Battling with archrival Mercedes-Benz year in and year out for the highest laurels, BMW continues to constantly tweak its existing line and add new vehicles to its line in a bid to stimulate and strengthen customer interest. One area where BMW has found much of its recent success is with its race car inspired line of vehicles, the M Series. Since 1979 various Motorsports [M} tags have been affixed to vehicles that have been developed by the BMW Motorsports division, including the BMW M3 a car based on BMW’s popular 3 Series. Today, BMW engineers are hard at work on developing an all new BMW M3 and, if all of the auto buzz is correct, very few cars will be able to keep up with this 400 hp road commander. Please keep reading for a closer look at the all new, soon to be released, BMW M3.

BMW M3

A pitched battle in autodom continues to gather force pitting German automaker against German automaker. Legendary Mercedes-Benz is taking on heralded BMW for the right to call themselves the top selling luxury brand in the world. For years, the honor belonged exclusively to Mercedes-Benz, but a recent stumble on Mercedes’ part coupled with a surge of new products from BMW has placed BMW in first place. Not far behind the two is Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota, but for now the battle remains a fight between these two German automakers.

For luxury car enthusiasts, the BMW-Mercedes rivalry has been a win-win battle as both automakers have been pouring engineering funds into their vehicles. Neither automaker is resting on their past achievements; instead both are pressing forward to add the latest safety features including Mercedes’ Night Vision Assist and BMW’s impact absorbing bumpers which absorb stronger impacts without damaging the vehicle’s main body. Safety is one of the chief concerns for consumers when selecting a particular luxury brand according to all of the leading automotive industry surveys.

BMW m3 For sale

For BMW, its latest automotive project has been a closely guarded secret until very recently. Camouflaged spy shots of the all new BMW M3 have been circulating on the internet for some time now but only since June has a pre-production version of a fully unclothed BMW M3 been spotted. It was seen navigating the twisting roads of Southern California according to The Car Connection, the vehicle information and shopping site.

For BMW enthusiasts, news of a BMW M3 pre-production sighting means one thing: BMW will soon announce the date in 2007 when its latest M Series car will be available in dealer showrooms.

Right now, the current BMW M3 is still based on the fourth generation 3 Series which was replaced in 2006. The new BMW M3 will be based on the latest generation body frame and feature some notable improvements over the previous BMW M3 model including:

A larger, more potent V8 engine with an output of 400 horses. Currently, the BMW M3 features an inline six engine with a 333 horsepower output. The new model is expected to rocket from start to 60 in under 5 seconds, topping out at 155 mph.

A six or possibly seven speed manual transmission.

A longer wheelbase for better weight distribution.

Styling cues from the BMW M3 will find its way to the new model from front wing vents to twin exit exhausts along with the ubiquitous M series recognized emblems.

For Mercedes enthusiasts they can point to the soon to be released 2007 C Class, which is the direct competitor for the BMW 3 Series, as evidence that Daimler Chrysler will not let BMW out of its crosshairs anytime soon. A new AMG [motorsport] version of the C Class will follow, ratcheting up what is certain to a pitched battle to be enjoyed by compact luxury car devotees worldwide.

Volvo’s construction machinery segment growing with new products

Most people think of cars and trucks when they hear the name Volvo, but the company is also one of the larger and faster growing construction machinery suppliers in the world. Indeed, it can be compared to giant companies like Caterpillar, Deere, and Komatsu. Volvo’s construction equipment sales in 1996 are expected to top $2 billion for the first time, versus sales in 1995 of $1.9 billion and $1.2 billion in 1993. About 23 percent of those sales are generated in North America, while the largest portion of sales (about 60 percent of the total) comes from Europe.

Volvo has always had an excellent reputation in the construction machinery industry. The company is managed from its headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, with production facilities in Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Sweden and the U.S. The North American operations consist of Volvo Construction Equipment North America, Inc., located in Asheville, N.C., and Euclid-Hitachi Heavy Equipment, Inc., in Guelph, Ontario, and Cleveland, Ohio. Volvo Construction Equipment is responsible for the marketing and product support of the company’s business in the U.S., Canada and Mexico . Euclid-Hitachi oversees the development and manufacturing of rigid haulers produced in Canada.

Prior to mid-1995, Volvo was known as VME. VME was formed in 1985, through the combination of the construction equipment divisions of both Clark Equipment and AB Volvo. In January 1995, Clark announced its intention to sell its entire interest in VME, so Volvo management reached an agreement in March of 1995 to purchase Clark’s 50 percent interest for $573 million as part of its strategy to concentrate on the automotive and transportation industries. The company, renamed Volvo Construction Equipment, was consolidated June 30, 1995, at which time it became a wholly owned subsidiary of AB Volvo.

Within the rigid hauler business, Volvo has a joint venture with Hitachi - Euclid-Hitachi - of which Volvo owns a 60 percent share. That venture was formed in November 1993. The company also owns the German company, Zettelmeyer, which became a wholly owned subsidiary in late 1993. In December 1995, Volvo acquired Groupe Pel-Job, a French manufacturer of mini-excavators and a leading supplier of those machines in Europe.

Volvo is the world’s leading supplier of articulated haulers, and it is a major producer of rigid haulers and wheel loaders. The company also produces hydraulic excavators - a product area it is planning to revamp completely during 1997 - and mini-excavators produced by its Pel-Job subsidiary. In 1995, 44 percent of the articulated dump trucks manufactured in the world rolled out of Volvo factories. It’s nearest competitor, Caterpillar, accounted for about 25 percent of the market.

Saab halts next 9-3 launched is built on GM’s Epsilon II platform

radically downsize next-gen

Tougher emissions and fuel economy regulations in Europe and the United States have forced Saab to put the brakes on development of the next-generation 9-3. The current Saab 9-3 is built on GM’s Epsilon platform (shared with the Opel Vectra, Chevrolet Malibu, and Pontiac G6). The next-gen model was set to be based on the longer and wider GM Epsilon II platform (used for the 2009 Saab 9-5). However, Saab and parent company General Motors are considering radically downsizing the model to fit GM’s upcoming ‘Global premium compact’ platform - a size rivaling the Audi A3.

GM design sources told Autocar that a smaller chassis would dictate new technologies to maximize interior room. These would include a slim modular roof assembly and slimmer doors with advanced side-impact technology. General Motors has also hinted that the new 9-3 could be manufactured in the United States. Many European automakers are feeling the impact a weak dollar is having on profits and, like BMW, are moving or increasing production in the States.

Production of Tata Nano is supposed to go on sale in October

Tata Nano

Indian carmaker Tata chose a site in Singur, India for the plant that would make the Nano, the world’s cheapest car. Not long afterward, eleven petitions were filed in the Calcutta High Court stating that the purchase of the land for the factory violated the Land Acquisition Act of 1894. It was alleged that the government of Bengal forcibly took “fertile multi-crop agricultural land” from farmers for industrial use, which isn’t allowed.

Earlier this year, the Calcutta High Court found in favor of the government of West Bengal (where Singur is) and Tata. Now another petition has been filed with India’s Supreme Court over the issue, and the Supreme Court has asked the West Bengal government and Tata to respond.

The issue for the moment is that Tata Nano is supposed to go on sale in October — but the next hearing over the land use petition won’t be held until July. Some suppose a revised land deal might drive up the price of the car. Regardless, if Tata doesn’t work out a production alternative, Tata won’t get the head start it was hoping for on what could be a huge market.
